Network Administrator for IP-based Win2008R2/2012R2 network serving local and remote locations in a closed network environment, within areas approved for classified processing. Network management revolves around a virtualized Server Host OS environment, with a proprietary messaging application, that communicates with Win7/Win10 workstations, encryption devices, and switches.
The Network Administrator will manage, in collaboration with other assigned Systems Administrators, the VMware ESXi virtualized Windows Host OS machines for the Tactical Decision Agent (TDA) upgrade network system titled “IGATE” (Decision Agent Gateway). The virtualized machines include a Win2012R2 Domain Controller (with Active Directory/DNS), a separate Administrative Win2012R2 server (with SQL), and a separate Win2008R2 IGATE message server (with Northrop Grumman proprietary application and SQL). Manage the network IP addressing schema utilizing Cisco VLAN level 3 separation for local and remote locations. Manage Group Policy settings; identify, create, test and apply new recommended and approved settings as appropriate to servers and workstations. Normal work hours are between 08:00 and 18:00, Mon-Fri.
•Perform daily monitoring of the VM environment, including the availability of system resources, monitoring database and drive capacity levels, reviewing audit logs for anomalies.
•Maintain system backups utilizing Acronis Backup and integrated VMware appliance technology.
•Research system error conditions; identify and collaborate on repair options, with vendors as necessary, to ensure a beneficial, functional resolution.
•Create and maintain new virtual machines as necessary, using provided VMware utilities. This includes creation of a secondary Domain Controller.
•Create, as necessary, and maintain system documentation for the domain controller/AD/DNS configurations and other system documentation as directed. This includes steps for secure startup and shutdown of the VMs and physical machines.
•Perform periodic system scans and generate appropriate reports utilizing Tenable Nessus scanner.
•Identify, recommend and assist in the design of upgrade paths and enhancements for the VM environment to improve functionality and fail over capabilities. This includes ensuring hardware components and firmware, and software application compatibility for versions/builds.
•Collaborate with other assigned System Administrators, managers and operators to coordinate updates, testing, and changes to policies on the network. Assist in baseline generation, testing and deployment of OS and third party software patch updates.
•Provide assistance in the development, testing and deployment of upgrade options for the PC terminal components, locally and at the remote locations.
•Train on the IGATE messaging system; hands-on training will be provided.
•Provide assistance as part of the network help desk support, to resolve customer requests, documenting error conditions and remediation steps.
•Implement, as directed, DOE security policies, guidelines and procedures for the secure operation of the work area and systems, including practices for physical and personnel security.
•When necessary, perform additional duties for the operation of the network, such as COMSEC custodian responsibilities, generating and updating Standard Operating Procedures and periodic resource reports, escort duties, hardware/software inventory and procurement reviews, system security plan documentation reviews and updates.
•Attain and maintain a DOE Q/TS level clearance.
•Experience with installation, configuration, administration and management of Windows 2008R2/2012R2 domains, Group Policy, Active Directory/DNS, and SQL 2005/2008/2012 databases.
•Experience in VMWare infrastructure and software, including ESXi 5.5 and above, VMware vSphere 6.5 and above. Experience creating, deploying, maintaining, and updating VM machines in a closed network environment.
•Computer operator proficiency in using Windows OS and programs (i.e., Win7/10, Visio, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project) and Web-based applications and search tools.
•Ability to work in a team environment as well as independently.
•Demonstrate excellent analytical and problem resolution skills; be organized, detail-oriented, flexible, and self-motivated. Demonstrate highly effective verbal, written communication and technical writing skills.
•Visually access and manually operate various types of equipment from ground level positioning to a height of 6 feet, including using such items as step ladders/stools, open/close dial combination locks and vault-type doors, read and reset power supplies and local area network devices, operate and troubleshoot rack mounted and under-raised-floor installed equipment/access panels.
Five + years IT work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience. This should demonstrate substantial knowledge and skill in management of a Windows virtual network.
